14 October 2026

I was delighted to deliver my first invited keynote address at the Fourth International Conference Psychology and Music – Interdisciplinary Encounters (PAM-IE), held at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, 14 -17 October 2026.

My talk, When Music Paints: Colour, Emotion, and Imaginative Listening, brought together several strands of my research into music–colour synaesthesia, embodied cognition and musically evoked narrative imaginings.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share my Leverhulme Fellowship research with an international audience, meet colleagues working across music psychology and related disciplines, and reflect on how we communicate research beyond our immediate specialisms.

I’ve written about the experience, including the preparation, the presentation itself and some unexpected moments, on Durham University’s Music & Science blog.
