Expert musicians wanted for a Leverhulme Trust-funded Durham University study
When you listen to music, do you experience colours, images, memories, or vivid stories unfolding in your mind? Some musicians automatically see colours in response to music, while others imagine scenes, characters, or narratives. This study explores how these experiences shape the way expert musicians engage with music.
In Session 1, you will complete a short online survey about your musical background, visual imagination, and any synaesthetic experiences you may have. If invited to continue, Session 2 involves listening to short musical excerpts and describing any colours, images, or stories that the music evokes.
- Session 1: 10-minute online survey
- Session 2: 60-minute online listening session (if invited to continue)
- £50 Amazon Gift Voucher (or local currency equivalent) on completion of Session 2
- Professional and highly trained musicians
- Musicians with and without music-colour synaesthesia are welcome
- Approved by the Department of Music Ethics Committee, Durham University.
Please complete Session 1 on a laptop or desktop computer using Google Chrome (not a mobile phone or tablet).
Completing Session 1 does not commit you to taking part in Session 2.
